This map is similar to Mitchell's "Map of Mexico" but it is focused on the California Gold Region, which has been colored bright yellow. Because most of the California cartography is closer to 1847 when the map was copyrighted, Wheat says "this is an example of the rather common practice of 'doctoring up' old maps for sale to the gold-seekers." Full color map. Includes text, references, table of distances, and view of Castle of San Juan d'Ulloa. Shows locations of some battlefields in the U.S. War with Mexico. Relief shown by hachures. Prime meridians are Washington, D.C. and Greenwich.
