P1346; Sabin47432; Streeter 81; Ristow p180.
Pub Note:
1st edition. 5 large folding maps, 3 small maps. This, the first edition, was published during the war, and thus has the feeling of events unfolding with an uncertain outcome. The second edition was published in 1815 after the conclusion of the war, and has different text, and is more of a history. Henry Tanner engraved the five large maps that Melish drew, and J. Vallance engraved the three small maps. We believe this is the first book Melish published with the idea that it was an "Atlas."
