Pub Note:
Newport became Society's watering hole in the 1850's and 1860's and this atlas shows many of the first estates to be built - August Belmont, Gardner Brewer, William Beach Lawrence and many others, all huddled together overlooking the ocean. The rest of the town looks like a typical nineteenth century small port. Map has full color.
