Pub Note:
1881 date is from Phillips. 52 maps on 40 sheets, with 2 index sheets. Very detailed uncolored maps of the river from Pittsburgh to Cairo. W.E. Merrill is the same Merrill whose name is on the Warren - Freyhold Map of the United States, and the Map of Kansas, Texas and Indian Territory, both 1867. This probably the most comprehensive and detailed survey of the Ohio River done at the time. Maps are bound in dark brown cloth covered boards with "Map Of The Ohio River 1868" stamped in gilt.
