The plates in this volume are based on pictures drawn by Lilian Lancaster in her fifteenth year to amuse and entertain her sick brother. Lilian had a very successful stage career but eventually returned to illustration under her married name, L. Tennant. She illustrated the 1912 volume "Stories of Old" by E.L.
