The Physical Atlas, A Series of Maps & Illustrations of the Geographical Distribution of Natural Phenomena Embracing I Geology. II Hydrography. III Meteorology. IV Natural History. By Alexander Keith Johnston, F.R.G.S., F.G.S. Geographer At Edinburgh To Her Majesty; Honorary Member Of The Geographical Society, Berlin. William Blackwood & Sons ... Edinburgh ... London. 1850.
Pub Note:
Although the title pages says 1850, this is actually the first edition of 1848 without any changes other than the date on the title page. This first issue is closer to the Berghaus source atlas of 1845 (see our 1849 Berghaus edition 2515.000) than the second Johnston edition of 1856 (see our Johnston 0372.000). All of the plates in this 1848/1850 edition are engraved; in the second edition of 1856, Johnston replaces most of the hand colored engraved plates with color lithography.
